This is a brand new version of the popular Manual by George Garanian. The previous version was published more than 20 years ago & is a rare edition now, but is still a reference book not only for students, but for teachers of music colleges & institutions of higher education in Russia.
From the author’s Introduction: «The Manual was based on my work “Arrangement for variety instrumental ensembles & pop-groups” (2-nd edition, Moscow, publishing house “Music”, 1986),
but this particular book is much more extended. It includes material on variety & jazz orchestra (big-band). The chapter dedicated to “Electronic instruments & e-sound acoustic effects cell” is meaningfully broadened & modernized, with a lot of inquiries contained.
The first chapter consists of parts, referred to: rhythm section, brass section, big-band brass section, variety-symphonic score, vocal group, and work on configuration. The second part is dedicated to music & electronics.
Additional materials suggest descriptions of the most popular percussive tools for Latin American rhythms, narration about the digital system of commutations MIDI, the most common English terms vocabulary, and chronology of the most notable discoveries & innovations in the engineering music electronics.
